Ron DeSantis in good shape in poll with bad news for other Florida Republicans

In a recent USA Today/Suffolk University/WSVN-TV poll conducted between August 7 and August 11, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has demonstrated notable political strength, contrasting sharply with less favorable news for other prominent Florida Republicans.

DeSantis boasts a 52% approval rating, significantly outpacing his 43% disapproval rating. His strong performance is particularly evident among male voters, where he enjoys a robust 57% approval rating, marking a 20-point lead. However, his support among female voters is more balanced, with 46% favorable and 48% disapproving.

Regionally, DeSantis shows strong approval across most of Florida, though with some variation. His approval stands at 62% in North Florida, 52% in West Florida, and 53% in East Florida. In South Florida, his approval drops to 42%. This regional disparity highlights varying local support for the Governor within the state.

The political composition of Florida, with the GOP holding a significant voter advantage of one million over the Democrats, contributes to DeSantis’s overall favorable ratings. His approval within the Republican Party is especially high at 89%, which helps offset his lower approval ratings among independents (50% disapproval vs. 43% approval) and Democrats (13% approval vs. 81% disapproval).

DeSantis’s approval is consistent across age groups, with approval ratings at or above 50% in all demographics: 51% among those under 35, 55% among those aged 35-49, 51% among those aged 50-64, and 50% among senior citizens.

However, his approval ratings among racial groups reveal a more complex picture. While DeSantis has a relatively low 20% approval rating among Black voters, he enjoys higher approval among Hispanics (52%) and White voters (59%).

The Governor’s favorable ratings contrast sharply with those of U.S. Senator Rick Scott, DeSantis’s predecessor, who is currently at a low 35% approval. Additionally, the Suffolk poll indicates a tight presidential race in Florida, with Kamala Harris within 5 points of Donald Trump.

Despite DeSantis’s departure from Florida to run for President during much of last year, his political standing remains strong. A June Fox News survey also reflected a 52% approval rating for DeSantis, further affirming his continued popularity.

This poll highlights not only DeSantis’s enduring support but also the challenges facing other Florida Republicans as the political landscape continues to evolve.
